2020 Pike Road Art Market & British Cars

Things that are easy to take for granted here in Alabama:

Great BBQ
Low taxes
Lovely vistas from seashore to mountaintop

To this list I would have normally have added spectacular weather in late winter/early fall, but lately it has been absolutely waterlogged here in Montgomery. Fortunately for all of us, the perpetual Seattle weather departed for the weekend, leaving us crisp temperatures, low humidity, and a sky shockingly blue. This was the backdrop for the season’s first show event, the annual Pike Road Art Market and Auto Show.

Having been promoted from “local car club” to being mentioned by name, I looked forward to a great showing of our member’s personal rides. Fortunately for us, eleven stalwarts answered the call, and classics ranging from a ’35 (’36?) Ford droptop to modern Japanese roadsters graced the town hall apron, with the fat part of the bell curve filled by the LBCs which are our stock in trade. Although MG made a brave showing, it was Triumph again dominating the field. Sorry, Abingdon. From TR3A to TR4A to TR6, Coventry was well represented. Our webmaster/photographer chose to keep his lovely Pepper White MINI out of the limelight, probably because it would have blinded us with its perfect paint. The show also provided an opportunity for members to donate supplies to the local Humane Society, and adopt pets, if they wished. Although Doc Peden had clearly met a dog that caught his fancy, I believe Amanda and Blitz brought home a little canine bundle of joy.

Perhaps the greatest challenge we faced that day was putting one of Doc’s lovelies to bed in the warehouse. Ask Russell how many stops there are between Pike Road and Cook’s corner. Just ask him – I dare you.

It was a good start for 2020. As the year wears on and the weather warms up, I fully expect more members will join us on our adventures.
