2019 October Meeting Munites

President Hank Sims called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on October 14, 2019 at Jan’s Beach House Grill. There were 16 members present and one guest. Hank introduced Lucy Edwards who has a 1979 MBG that used to belong to her father. Treasurer Andy Martin gave the financial report.

Old business was discussed. Tom Miro reported on Brits in the Valley in Columbus on September 21. The show was well worth the drive with over 80 cars on display. Russell Whigham, Mike Ranieri, and Dan Byrne attended. Tom also reported on the October 4 Lower Dexter First Friday Cruise-in. Turnout was good with 14 cars from our club on display. A best of show trophy is awarded to a car of the sponsoring club and Bill Berg won the top prize for his TR3.

Next there was a discussion of British Car Day 2019 held on October 12. Blitz Welch thanked everyone who filled in for him in his absence this year. Tom said there were 26 cars with a good mix of Asian and British makes. He was pleased with the new location at Jan’s noting the increased foot traffic with many people stopping by to view and chat. Russell has started a feature on the show on the club’s website. Amanda Welch praised Tom for the design of the Jan’s Choice award in the shape of the restaurant’s mascot, a pink flamingo. Bill Berg won this award.

New business was discussed. Tom will be going to the British Car Festival in Fairhope on October 26. He will also go to the November 2 Birmingham Motoring Club show at Brookwood Village. He asked if anyone would like to go to these events to please let him know.

Amanda gave a report on this year’s Tired Butts tour.  She is still trying to find restaurants that can handle a big group so that all participants can eat together at least one time on the trip.

Cathy Whigham announced that the Christmas party would be held at Bon Appetit in Millbrook on December 14. The cost will be $20.00 and must be prepaid on or before the next club meeting on November 11. She proposed that since the rental is for just two hours that we forego the Dirty Santa game and instead bring donations to Children’s Harbor. There would also be more time for socializing. All members present were in agreement. She will send out an email with the complete details.

Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.
