2019 Lunch Run to Bright Star in Bessemer

Not again.
Really?
Looking out my window, I saw evidence of the bad weather that has dogged me since I first led a club event.  Well, rain or shine, we are on our way.  With the TR out of commission and pending a fender, I jumped in Mama’s pretty BMW barchetta, and headed out to the rendezvous, the downtown fountain.  I got there a little early and waited, hoping folks would brave the weather and distance to enjoy a good meal in a cool restaurant.
Sadly, my hopes were dashed. Three lonely cars, driven by some of the usual suspects, departed Montgomery that cloudy, drizzly morning, heading to Bessemer.  One third of our group broke off to pick up his date in Hoover, and met us there.  The remaining two drove on charming roads roughly paralleling the Interstates, yet so much more interesting and attractive.  2 hours and change brought us to our destination, the oldest restaurant in Alabama.  We stopped to admire the murals painted throughout the large restaurant by an itinerant band of artists, I believe in exchange for meals.
Speaking of meals, the food once again did not disappoint.  I enjoyed the gumbo, a Greek salad with extra anchovies, and grilled snapper throats,  The rest of the party ordered various items from the lunch menu, and no one appeared disappointed.
After lunch, we all piled back into the three machines, happy to have made the run, and saddened more folks didn’t join us on this road trip.
Hope to see some more of you on the road with us.
Tom
