2016 Pike Road Art Market & British Cars

In the original COSMOS television series, Carl Sagan, in his episode on red giant stars, described “the last perfect day” on Earth. This helped me appreciate our perfect days. March 5, 2016 was such a day. Despite this, we had a rather paltry turn-out of little British cars: one ’59 MGA (David), one ’80 RHD Leyland Mini (Alex), one 2010 MINI (Russell) and later one Rolls Royce Corniche (Dr. Peden). Hamer’s “MGiata” was even pressed into service to fill the void until the Rolls arrived. Several members have cars that are “under construction” right now on their way to become road-worthy again. Given that this was during the middle of the two-week window for anything planned outdoors in the spring, factored in as well. On the other hand, we had several members sans their LBCs stop by: the Bergs, the Miros, the Wessons, the Welches, and the Woods, for a visit and to check out the art inside the Town Hall. We also met a couple of new member prospects — a MGB owner and another with “some” bug eye Sprites. Two television news crew videographers were on hand to cover the event. We even had a few seconds of air time on the 10:00 news. Visitors to the art market were seen ogling the cars — the older ones perhaps reminiscing the heady days of their youth, and the children who found the little cars just their size. Several of us a took a lunch break next door at “No Way Jose’s”, taking advantage of the “Art Market Specials”.  The organizer/coordinator for the Pike Road Art Market, Patty Payne, had made accommodations for many more cars. We’ll try to meet her expectations next year.
