Mt Cheaha 2009

WEATHER MEN!!!!!!!!!!  Never again will I believe them.  A beautiful day was forecast, it was somewhere, but not from Alex City to Mt. Cheaha.  It was cold, windy, damp and wet, and to cap everything off we even had sleet at Mt. Cheaha.

Our had plans to meet members from the Birmingham Car Club who also planned a run to Mt. Cheaha as well.  Ron and I met everyone at Kelley’s Potty Stop, otherwise known as Kelley’s Gas station in Kellyton.  Then after visiting for a little while, we all climbed in our cars both LBC’s and WannaBe’s, and headed to highway 9, David leading the way, and the rest of us barreling along behind him.

David, as always, did a fantastic job of planning this outing, and took us up some fun twisty, turny roads, it made me think I was back home in England for a minute. We all made it to the restaurant with problems,  well,,,,,  we had a little problem with the windshield wipers, they decided to work only when the engine started up, not fun driving for Ron when it was really raining hard several times.

Roland and Doris met us in the parking lot as they only live a few miles away from Mt. Cheaha, and once we were all parked at the restaurant we started looking around for the B’ham club, not one additional LBC to be seen. So we ambled, not really, it was too cold to amble, up to the restaurant to be seated and eat lunch.  Halfway thru lunch, Ruben finally appears, one of their members was having a problem with their car, but they were able to get it repaired luckily.  Ruben’s club were much, much braver [I put that mildly], they brought lunches and sat out on the point at the top of the mountain, until the SLEET, yes, you read it right, SLEET, and wind and rain decided that enough was enough.  It was really fun tho, we had a great time visiting with everyone and once again trading stories and sagas. the Birmingham Club have great members also.

The trip home was also a fun one, twisty turny roads all the way down the mountain, not as much rain as the trip up thankfully, with all of us making it home safely. DAVID,  THANK YOU,  Once again all of us who were able to make it enjoyed the trip.
