2017 Old Barn Restaurant

“We call this a false spring”

A line from one of my favorite John Wayne movies. What else can you say about a mid seventies day in February? The weather, the drive, and the food brought out the cars for our February driving event. Brought out the “British” cars that is! I counted eleven, a great number for early in the year. There were 2 As, 5 Bs, 1 Jag, 1 Sprite, 1 TR6, 1 MINI, a Honda S 2000, a Lexus and a Mercedes. 13 cars and 21 people!

We took the scenic route down to Goshen . I didn’t get us lost this time. Great meandering two lane back roads with nary a red light on the way.  Most cars who could – dropped their tops. A long line of British cars is one lovely sight.

We had a few special cars for this outing. Matt Mulvanny, his first outing, allowed us a long peak at his lovely Red & White Bugeye Sprite. Terry Young in his first road trip of the project MGB, braved over a hundred miles in the first shakeout run for this car.  The car did great!  The MGA Guru himself – Barney Gaylord in his well travelled MGA and trailer joined us as well. Barney had been helping Terry work out some gremlins on the B.

The Old Barn – that’s what it was. Back in its day, this was a real mule barn. Amy & Scottie Chandler along with Amy’s parents, Johnny & Beverly Taylor turned the old family barn into a really nice restaurant. Our club has been there several times and one of my favorite things is – those collards you see around the porch – they are being served inside. In fact, most of the vegetables being served are grown in a large garden nearby.

Enough about vegetables – the bread pudding is to die for. Sure the ice cream and mud pies looked good. The bread pudding is awesome!

A huge Sunday crowd had gathered and we pushed our way through the waiting crowd and soon departed. Most took the quick way back through Troy and on 231. Barney and his son, Elliot,  searched out WIFI and did an article on his blog of the outing.  Me – I’m a sucker for back roads.  So were Terry & Matt. SO the Bugeye, MGB, & MGA wandered back home the same way we came.

A really great day.
