2014 Visit with Ukrainian Orphans

On Saturday afternoon, June 21,  a small but dedicated group of BMC members motored up the back roads of Elmore, Autauga, and Chilton counties to Camp Bridgestone (Bridges of Faith ).  Last August, the kids enjoyed seeing and riding in our little cars we were happy to make a day a little brighter for this group on their visit to our country.  Dave and Lisa Bundy adopted four of the children who visited there last summer, and  asked that we help support the facility again.

This was the last day of the camp before these kids were to head back home.  We let the kids (about 10) look over our little cars and gave them rides down the road from about 4-5 pm. A strong summer thunderstorm put an early end to the rides, but I think each of the kids had multiple rides.  David Price had an extra adventure for his last passenger, putting the hood up on his MGA in horizontal rain.

Later, we were treated to a meal of traditional Ukrainian dishes that had included borscht (a beet based vegetable soup), pilmeny (pasta with meat and butter inside), golubsti (cabbage rolls similar to egg rolls), and several other dishes that were new to us.  Following our meal, the kids put on a program for the adults.

At our June meeting, we agreed that BMC would make a $200.00 donation to Bridges of Faith.  The camp, which hosts orphans, 3-4 times a year, operates on donations of clothes, linens, toiletries, money, or kitchen supplies if you’re interested in that.  If you weren’t able to make the trip with us, but would like to help the camp, the address is:

Camp Bridgestone
302 County Road 383

Thanks to David and Lisa Bundy for organizing this event, and for handling the coordination.
